Built for heavy file operators

SuperFinder

Got the path, still digging through Finder?

SuperFinder gives your files an address bar. Paste, Return, you're there. Tabs and split panes, a staging shelf, session restore, in one window. The window below is real, play with it.

Saves: split structure + pane ratios + each pane's folder + view mode (no history stacks).

Jump, compare, gather,
return anytime.

Opening a folder is easy. The work is shuttling between places to find, compare, move and change things. SuperFinder keeps that in one workspace you can save.

  1. 01

    Jump straight there

Paste a path into the address bar and hit Return. A few letters, Tab completes each level.

  2. 02

    Compare

Split a tab four ways, name the layout, reopen it as it was.

  3. 03

    Gather

Drop files into the shelf, it records a reference. The move happens on drag-out.

Close and reopen. Tabs, panes and the shelf come back.

One window, the whole workspace.

No wall of windows

Split four ways in a tab, drag a grip to swap, save the layout.

Collect first, move later

Dropping in records a reference. Dragging the stack out moves it.

Close and come back

Tabs, panes and the shelf return with their folders, after a crash too.

SuperFinder is built for two kinds of people.

People who catch paths from chats and terminals

A path lands in an AI chat, an editor, or an issue. Paste it into the address bar, hit Return. ⌘C copies the current path back out.

People who organize deep in the folder tree

Panes side by side to compare, batch rename with a live preview, the shelf to gather first and move once, on drag-out.

Select a file, act on it in the sidebar.

Photos, PDFs, audio, video, text: tools match the file type. Convert, resize, remove background. Official plugins out of the box, your own scripts welcome.

Archive photos by date

Camera originals in, dated folders out.

Generate files from a CSV

One table row, one file.

Tidy a delivery folder

Rename and file everything, ⌘Z puts it back.

Not just these three

Official plugins keep arriving; write your own anytime.

The boundary

Plugins are code you installed, networking is yours. The app stays offline.

Inbox 8 items

Fast, but never out of bounds.

Three boundaries, hard-coded into the product:

Delete goes to the Trash

No permanent-delete entry point, and no preference to add one.

Files never leave your Mac

The app has no networking: no account, no cloud, no telemetry. Plugin networking is yours. This site makes zero third-party requests either.

Writes can be undone

Moves, copies, renames and tool output take effect immediately, ⌘Z reverses them.

Frequently asked.

Is SuperFinder free?

Yes. Both the App Store build and the direct download from this site are free. The direct build includes the external plugin port, unlockable with a Pro key (¥38 one-time); the online purchase flow is under construction.

Do my files get uploaded anywhere?

No. SuperFinder itself has zero networking: no account, no cloud sync, no telemetry — files never leave your Mac. External plugins are code you installed yourself; their networking is yours.

What does it require?

SuperFinder needs macOS 14 or later, with a Simplified Chinese and English interface. Current version 1.5.1 (build 11, released 2026-10-14).

How does it relate to Finder?

SuperFinder works as your everyday file manager: address-bar jumps, tabs and split panes, a staging shelf and session restore. It interoperates with Finder's tags, QuickLook and permissions — no need to remove or replace Finder.

What's the difference between the direct and App Store builds?

The direct build includes the external plugin port (custom .sfplugin bundles); the sandboxed App Store build cannot. Everything else matches, and the direct DMG is Developer ID signed and notarized by Apple.

Is the download safe?

Yes. The direct DMG is signed with a Developer ID, notarized and stapled by Apple, with an SHA-256 checksum you can verify yourself; the App Store build goes through Apple review.

Does it uninstall cleanly?

Yes. SuperFinder is a single .app you drag into /Applications, with no background daemons; delete the .app to uninstall. The login item is optional.

SuperFinder vs. Finder: a file manager compared.

Changelog.

What each version shipped, from 1.0 to now. Current direct build: 1.5.1 (build 11).

1.5.12026-10-14Current
  • New Right-click a bookmark: folders and files in the bookmarks bar now open a menu to open, remove from bookmarks, or rename.
  • New Bookmarks inside a folder work the same way: expand the group, then right-click an individual bookmark for the same menu.
  • Fixed Right-clicking a bookmark inside a folder used to jump straight to it; it now only shows the menu.
  • Fixed A menu item could be activated by the same press that opened the menu — the menu now appears on mouse-up.
  • Improved Unavailable menu items are disabled when a bookmark is stale: "Open" for a missing folder and "Reveal in Finder" for a missing file are greyed out, while "Rename" and "Remove from Bookmarks" always stay, so broken bookmarks remain manageable.
1.5.02026-10-14
  • New Row numbers in list view: every row is numbered on the left, and the numbers re-flow after sorting.
  • New Hairline rules between columns; the sorted column is emphasized and shows its direction.
  • New Drag to the menu bar icon to stage: dragging over it pops out a drop container — drop and the files are staged, without interrupting what you are doing in Finder.
  • New Count badge on the menu bar icon: while the window is away and the staging shelf has items, the icon shows how many (9+ past nine); reopening the window brings them back inside.
  • New First launch seeds the bookmarks bar with Home, Desktop, Documents, Downloads, and Applications.
  • New Remove a single suggestion from the start page: right-click one and choose "Remove from suggestions"; folders that no longer exist are cleaned up automatically.
  • Improved One control language across every window: new buttons, fields, and sheets; the file info panel and inspector are laid out as cards, and the status bar reads out in monospaced figures.
  • Fixed A blank page on first launch — SuperFinder now lands in your home folder.
  • Fixed Middle-clicking a bookmark now opens a background tab instead of replacing the current window.
  • Fixed A crash when creating a new tab (⌘T or the + button) after closing the last one.
  • Fixed Bringing the window back with no tabs left still showed the closed tab, and the address bar stopped responding.
1.4.22026-10-11
  • New Closing the window no longer quits: the red close button only puts the window away and the app stays alive — bring it back with your shortcut, the menu bar icon, or a click on the Dock icon (⌘Q still quits).
  • New Menu bar icon: left-click shows or puts away the window, right-click goes straight to shortcut settings, preferences, and Quit.
  • New One-time ⌥Space prompt: on launch SuperFinder asks whether to switch to ⌥⇧Space, and won't ask again once you answer.
  • Fixed Inline rename occasionally showed an empty frame with the text showing through.
  • Fixed The inline rename field came out black in dark mode.
1.4.12026-10-11
  • New File bookmarks: add files to the bookmarks bar via right-click or drag; a single click opens them in their default app.
  • New Connect to Server: mount SMB shares via ⌘K and land in a new tab; the address bar accepts smb://, and recent servers are remembered.
1.4.02026-10-10
  • New Open in new tab: right-click a folder, or middle-click files and bookmarks to open a background tab without losing your place.
  • Fixed The drag image occasionally flew in from the top of the window.
  • Fixed Hovering over a folder while dragging could spring-load the folder itself; hover-to-confirm now has a 0.8 s floor against accidental triggers.
  • Fixed Overlapping text in the free-version badge.
1.3.02026-10-08
  • New Third batch of built-in image tools: crop to ratio, compress to a target size, strip metadata (GPS privacy), flatten transparency, normalize orientation.
  • New Batch rename by capture date, reading each photo's EXIF capture time.
  • New Drag to reorder bookmarks on the bookmarks bar.
  • New Pro unlock: the plugin port for a ¥38 one-time purchase, verified offline, no account.
  • Fixed Two direction bugs: rotate right/left were swapped, and some photos baked in a mirrored orientation.
  • Fixed Permission dialogs for Desktop, Documents and Downloads lacked a purpose explanation.
  • Improved Failed tool runs now state the reason in the toast and the progress card.
1.2.02026-10-06
  • New Sidebar tools: type-aware processing in four domains — images (convert/resize/rotate/background removal), PDF (merge/compress/extract pages), audio & video (convert/extract audio), text (encoding/JSON formatting).
  • New External plugin port: import a .sfplugin and it joins the sidebar; writes stay previewable and undoable (direct build only).
  • Fixed Gallery previews of PDFs ignored the scroll wheel and dragged poorly — previews now render in-process (native PDF, text and image, with QuickLook as fallback).
  • Fixed Opening a large image in the gallery could blow up the window size.
  • Fixed The address bar showed blank when entering edit mode; Quick Look didn't open after selecting in icon view; the gallery preview strip rendered as a sliver.
1.1.02026-10-02
  • New Pinning: keep frequently used items at the top of a folder, reorder by drag.
  • New Batch rename: find & replace, regex, sequence numbers, case conversion, live preview, whole-batch undo.
  • New Get Info and Services integration; show hidden files with one toggle.
  • New Places bar: iCloud, AirDrop, drives and Trash one click away; Empty Trash behind a confirmation.
  • Improved More Finder shortcuts across tabs, panes and lists; full-width characters in the address bar; recently closed tabs listed on the start page.
  • Fixed Plain-click selection and highlight in icon and gallery views; refresh storms, flicker and selection drift in large folders; the unresponsive Empty Trash item; denied Trash access now guides you to Full Disk Access.
1.0.02026-10-02
  • First release The browser-style file workbench: address bar (paste, Return, Tab completion), tabs with four-way splits, named layouts, the reference-only staging shelf, search as a place, four views + Quick Look, session restore, ⌘Z-undoable writes, Trash-only deletes.
